NYC fashion designers Natalie and Kristin have over 15 years of combined real world experience in the industry, spanning all facets of design responsibilities. Between the two of us, we've covered it all: creating tech packs CADs and presentation boards, presenting lines to buyers, performing fittings, traveling the globe, and shopping for trends. Over the years, not only have we perfected our skills in Illustrator and Photoshop, but we've also developed our own tricks and techniques to create industry standard projects quickly, efficiently, and beautifully. We started training co-workers and fellow designers in Illustrator and Photoshop and Natalie was invited to teach a CAD course at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT).
When we got our start, we had to learn the hard way that the Illustrator and Photoshop courses offered by fashion schools and career agencies simply don't live up to the fast-paced standards employers expect in the workplace. In fashion school, the curriculums didn't focus enough on computer design training; the courses offered only covered basic tools and taught outdated techniques. Since just about every entry level or assistant designer position out there requires proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, it was very difficult to find a job with such limited and dated skills. Companies simply don't have the time to train designers in skills that should have been learned in school.
Not wanting anyone else to deal with the same frustrations and disappointments, we've spent over a year designing and testing our own Illustrator and Photoshop courses that are tailor made for the fashion industry. While training other designers, we surveyed general skill levels and explored different learning resources to find out what was missing from the courses out there. We want to make sure that everyone who takes our courses will walk away with a clear understanding of these programs, and have the skills they need to succeed in the real world of fashion.
